Announcing the Winners of the Animal Welfare Essay Competition!

The Animal Welfare League is thrilled to announce the recent Animal Welfare Essay Competition winners! After receiving an overwhelming number of thoughtful and passionate entries from participants of diverse backgrounds, we have finally completed the painstaking task of selecting the winners.

The journey to this announcement stage has been truly inspiring. Our panel of judges spent weeks carefully reviewing each submission.

The judges assessed the essays based on the essay's

  • Structure and length

  • Relevance of the animal welfare issue

  • potential for impact

  • Readability and Coherence

  • Suitability for website audience/social media

  • General rating of the essay

The essays’ quality was assessed using robust similarity and plagiarism software, and the corresponding results were shared with all participants. It was delightful to see so many people discussing critical animal welfare topics, such as responsible pet ownership, cage-free farming, wildlife conservation, and ethical treatment of animals.

The AWL team is therefore very delighted to announce and congratulate the following individuals for emerging as winners in the competition:

Several other essay entries deserve recognition for outstanding contributions to the topic, and the judges had a challenging task—a heartfelt thank you to all the participants who made this competition a success. The talent and passion displayed in this competition reaffirm our belief in the country's positive future outlook of animal welfare advocacy. We believe these powerful voices deserve to be heard and so, the excitement doesn’t end here!

Over the next few weeks, the Animal Welfare League will share some of these thought-provoking essays with our audience. We encourage everyone to read, reflect, and join the conversation about protecting and ensuring the welfare of animals.

Emmanuel D. Piiru

Emmanuel D. Piiru is the programmes manager at Animal Welfare League. He is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduate from School of Veterinary Medicine, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.

He has over the years worked in various capacities to champion the course of animal welfare and have volunteered at many organizations including Rabies In West Africa and Mission Rabies where he took part in animal welfare activities.

Emmanuel is passionate about animal welfare and One Health advocacy, and enjoys networking and nature.
