VICTORY PRESS RELEASE ABOUT HILTON, LOUVRE HOTELS GROUP, AND MELIÁ HOTELS INTERNATIONAL FOR TRANSPARENT PROGRESS REPORTING ON THEIR CAGE-FREE COMMITMENTS

Victory Press Release

The Animal Welfare League, a member of the Open Wing Alliance (OWA) - a global coalition working to end the abuse of chickens worldwide, participated in the 2024 Heartless Hospitality campaign to demand that Hilton, Louvre Hotels Group, and Meliá Hotels International report progress on their cage-free commitments globally and regionally for all their properties.

As the Open Wing Alliance Africa Global Outreach Leader, we coordinated and encouraged actions from African organizations. This victory is having the following impact:

  • influencing the supply of about 285 million eggs annually - the combined number of eggs used by the three hotel groups,

  • which will be improving the lives of 861,000 hens in their supply chains, including African operations.

  • Hilton, Louvre Hotels Group, and Meliá Hotels International operate over 90 hotels and properties in over 25 African countries.

Dr. Jacob Ayang, Corporate Campaigns Lead, Animal Welfare League, stated in a press release:

We at the Animal Welfare League applaud Hilton, Louvre Hotel Group, and Meliá for their commitment to greater transparency and ethical egg sourcing. However, we urge equity in reporting across all regions, including Africa. We encourage them to uphold these renewed commitments globally, creating a unified standard for ethical egg sourcing. We remain available to support them in addressing any challenges to achieve this goal in Africa.
